I've not installed cheesetracker, but will give it a try.

I'll try to put my XM file available somewhere soon if any of you want to
try it out...
For soundfont compatibility yes I mean sf2 files, and maybe that is the
problem, although I also crashed soundtracker with a .xi instrument.
As soon as I can I'll send a bug report...
