I asked the former editor about doing something like that, he thought
Robin Rowe's column was sufficient. I like Robin's column but he doesn't
do much with audio. I'd like to do a monthly column for LJ, there's
certainly enough going on each month in Linux audio. If anyone really
wants to lobby LJ you can send general comments here:

That article was great fun, Linux softsynths are a blast. But the
greater thanks goes to the developers who for some odd reasons keep
churning out this cool software and just give it away. What strange and
wonderful activity !
