The most likely cause is that one of the ALSA folks uploaded a change
that broke the build. This can happen sometimes (or quite often) when
you get the 'cutting-edge' sources from CVS repositories.

Try waiting a while and run another 'cvs update' to see if it has been
fixed. Or, you might want to try downloading the tarball's instead.
