Yes, that's what I do! (vim, actually, and it does have syntax
highlighting for ABC)

I just wondered whether a graphical input program would be any easier
to use. As I can type ABC pretty fast I doubt it. I can get gv to
dislay updated output from the file I'm working on in a few quick
keystrokes and contunue editing...

I'm considering using abcm2ps to make a book of songs with tunes, words
etc. and have it do all the layout.
