I'm not sure about that. Probably just nobody would see the
announcements, and the people who aren't subscribed to
linux-audio-announce would continue to forget it exists.
The difference in readership is really substantial:

enough that it's pretty much a practical necessity to crosspost
for major releases, even if in principle it may not be a good
idea. Rather than just stopping, it would be better to find
other ways to encourage people to subscribe to LAA first.

The other reasonable viewpoint is that you should subscribe to
LAA only if you are _not_ subscribed to LAD or LAU but you still
want to get the announcements. If that is a common viewpoint,
that would certainly explain the difference in subscriber counts.
