Have you ever tried Arson. It is my favorite. It really just acts as a
front end to the command line programs. You get to select which command
line programs you use like cdrecord vs. crdao, lame vs. bladeenc
etc..... It even has VCD functions.

Anyone know how the VCD thing works. What do I need in order to make
VCD's with arson. Does it require non-free(FSF definition) software.
