Hi, just as a sidenote: you should keep in mind that most [if not all] professional grade audio interfaces do not support hw mixing of playback pcm streams.. thus limiting the normal desktop experience by making you use stuff like dmix, etc [which can be a pain to setup and isn't garanteed to work in all cases]..

basically from my point of view the ideal audio setup is a cheap hw mixing card [like emu10k1 or cs46xx] for the desktop/multimedia sounds plus a prof. grade card for serious audio work..
