Hi Reuben:
Interesting piece. The singer is very good, I'd say he's the reason
they'll get signed. The song's difficult to judge, I think the singer is
just a tad too far back in the mix when things get fuller, and I lose
the lyrics then. Playing is very good though, my compliments to the
band. The lead at the end is not coming out very clearly here, but
that's a minor point.
I really like that singer's voice, there's just a hint of Steve Perry
that works well for him.
Btw, perhaps we should mention exactly what we're using to audition
each other's music. After leaving the computer the sound here is routed
from a Yamaha DMP11 mixer to a QSC 100-watt power amp and on to a pair
of Yorkville YSM-1 studio monitors. The YSMs aren't that great, but
they're fairly flat and do sound good in the room here.
Nice work, Reuben !
Best,
dp

They needed to record 4 songs for a demo to send to a producer at some studio in Nashville before they went there to record. Anyway, the recording was done with Adobe Audition because it was not my computer, and we were using a Motu firewire unit. I did the mixing and mastering on ardour and jamin though, which isn't saying much given I had to do all four songs in about an hour and a half. It doesn't sound bad though, and shows you can mix decent quality stuff with Linux software when you're pressed for time. (It would have taken forever with Audition, that program SUCKS for mixing) The recording isn't very clean, the Yamaha M3000 has very noisy preamps. BTW this was recorded in a very live auditorium, so all reverb is natural.
