Noah, I'm also now looking at an AMD64 system, in my case a Turion.
I'll let you know how it works out, if I buy it. I presume you've seen
http://www.linux-on-laptops.com, though they mostly have info on the
big names like Dell, Fujitsu, etc.

Is it at least safe to buy an AMD64 system and assume that the basics
(cpu, cd, disks, graphics) will work with the typical i386 builds from
(eg) Debian? (DeMuDi for me...)
