It sort of does.  You can have segments triggered by individual notes
with pitches and durations adjusted to match the triggering notes, and
that allows you to do a fairly limited sort of pattern-based
composition.  There are various reasons why it's limited; the main one
is that nobody ever requests improvements to it (perhaps because almost
nobody knows the feature is there in the first place).  I'd like to see
some of those requests -- almost any improvement you can imagine is
likely to be easier to implement than the original feature was.
