timidity is another one. Not really sure how the status is on that
one.

Just so that you don't get this wrong. This exactly the kind of
question that should go here. I'm not sure how others see it but from
my point of view everyone have been new to linux audio and in need of
advice. I'm an old Linux/BSD/Unix user but fairly new LAU (3 years
now) and still need to sort out some of the more intricate linux audio
things.
