[linux-audio-user] firmware loader help please

i need to load the firmware onto my digigram VXpocket V2 soundcard.
http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/doc-php/template.php?company=Digigram&card=VXpocket+2.&chip=Motorola+DSP&module=vxpocket
<http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/doc-php/template.php?company=Digigram&card=VXpocket+2.&chip=Motorola+DSP&module=vxpocket>

./configure
returns "no such file or directory"

make install
says install is an incorrect target

I have loads of packages already installed make, etc

after a massive detour into recompiling kernels etc
& everything else seems to be configured correctly
hopefully all i need to do is load the firmware
though i can find nothing online about why this isn't working for me

what packages do i need to do this, if I don't have them already?
what else do i need to know?

in retrospect I think I've come to linux audio a year or two before it's
ready for me
unless it's just my bad luck for having bought a Quattro then trading it
for a Digigram card

thanks again
for tirelessly answering my trivial questions

hamish
