  Of course loading the .bnk files doesn't work. They are only text-files, at
least last time I looked.
  You can visit hammersound.net for soundfonts, if the site works again. Or
take a look at Dave's page, he listed a few pages for soundfonts and other
sounds:

  Besides that try some softsynths (with completely different sounds) or give
TiMidity another try. Which version do you have? Try timidity -h, this should
give the programs help again, there should be something about alsasequencer
devices. I have 2.13, but I think it's been there for a bit longer.
  If you don't have any external midi-keyboards, then your card midi I/O (16
and 20) are useless at the moment.
