Pieter, for your records:

** Those that considered buying a firewire device:
* What device(s) did you consider buying?

Most Recently:
Mackie Onyx 1200F, RME Fireface 800, or Metric Halo 2882+DSP

* What device did you go for in the end (if applicable)?

Have not as of yet.

* To what extent was the lack of Linux support a determining factor in
your decision?

Large extent, which is why at the moment since the Onyx is the only one I
know of likely to get Linux support anytime soon, it will likely be the one
I go for. I would rather either the Metric or RME with an external Onyx
Preamp, but since the RME WONT work with Linux, and the Metric Halo I can't
find much info on, It severely limits choices.

I use my devices not only for recording, but with my most recent shopping I
am looking to also have the capability to use as a standalone matrix mixer
that I can use separately from the computer. Since I work in linux
primarily to do my editing it means a lot to have support for whatever
device I use.
