What about a Nintendo DS packed with http://nitrotracker.tobw.net/?
PDa for DS should be ready in the not too far future as well.

You'll need some kind of flashcard for the DS, plus the DS, which
alltogether would cost you about $200 or less (especially if your kids
already have a DS.)
