    Here's a paraphrase of an email that I sent to Yamaha a couple of
years ago ;-) You might find it enlightening ;-)

    I bought a new Yamaha EMX88S portable PA on August 7th, 2005. I
used the PA on the night of August 20th, 2005 at a gig. I was very
pleased with the unit. Since I didn't have enough room in my car I
asked our other guitarist, Robert, if he would take it home with him and
he could bring it to the next gig. Robert dutifully took the system
home and placed it under his bed for safe keeping. All of this would be
unremarkable except for the fact that I live seven blocks off of the
beach in Long Beach, MS and Robert lives about a mile from Lake
Pontchartrain in Slidell, LA. Needless to say, Katrina came along a
week later and changed quite a few things around here. My family and I
evacuated east and Robert and his family went west. Unfortunately,
Robert, being ever the optimist, didn't evacuate his musical gear or
move it to higher ground. The EMX88S spent about a day and a half under
two or three feet of muddy, Lake Pontchartrain water. When Robert
returned he pulled the muddy PA out from under his bed and, having no
other real alternatives and little hope, hosed it down to remove the
crud. He then let it sit in his house for a couple of months. There is
still a small amount of dried mud inside the unit but nothing major. We
plugged it in, hooked up a couple of speakers and tested it out....
Everything worked!

    Here it is, two years later, and I'm still using it and everything
still works.
