with software monitoring do you mean the recording from software
sources?
i have a realtime kernel: 2.6.24-rc5 with realtime patch;
i have 1 gigabyte ram with a pentium 4 (2.66 gigahertz, no ht) system
and an audigy es soundcard;
in my /etc/security/limits.conf i have:
@audio - nice -19
@audio - rtprio 95
@audio - memlock 512000
and i use this script when system starts:
chrt -v -f -p 80 `pgrep softirq-timer`
chrt -v -f -p 80 `pgrep softirq-hrtimer`
chrt -v -f -p 82 `pgrep IRQ-21` --> my soundcard's irq
chrt -v -f -p 98 `pgrep IRQ-8` --> rtc's irq
chrt -v -f -p 70 `pidof "jackd"`
something wrong?

qmidiarp has jack support but i don't know how use it to connect this
application with a sofsynt (for example);
