It depends on what you would like to pursue first. Is it jazz, for instance?
Unforutnately, there are a small number of classical pieces written
for the bass and even less recorded. You find a lot of information
about jazz bass players. For instance, Scott LaFaro (who died young,
but can be found on recordings before his death in '61.) Get the Bill
Evans Village Vanguard sessions. Heck, you can also hear him on
youtube, but the recordings aren't so good. I could give you a list of
jazz players to pursue, but first what is your focus?
