It helps only in the sense that having no signal energy
above Fs/4 or Fs/8 allows simple algorithms to produce
acceptable results.
For example any effect that requires fractional sample
or continuously variable delays can use simple linear
interpolation when working at 96 or 192 kHz. Doing
this at 48 kHz would produce audible artefacts, and
to avoid these you need higher order interpolation,
which amounts to the same thing as resampling.
Fast limiting benefits from higher sample rates as well,
but it can be done inside the limiter - there's no need
to use 96 kHz everywhere.
