There's no substitute for taking the time to take every mic you have
access to and recording your amp in every conceivable way - right up
to the grille, a foot away, a meter away, straight on, to the left,
to the right. Record it all, take notes, then go lsten to what you
recorded, and figure out what *you* like best.

I don't have a bias against 57s - they have their place. Heck, Wilco's
Sky Blue Sky was recorded almost exclusively with 57s and it sounds pretty
darn good.
