Correct me if I'm wrong, but RME Firewire products have no plans to ever be supported under Linux.

Maybe but we're talking USB connections and they're Class Compliant.

After that it starts going on about connection to an iPad and what channels are available. It doesn't seem clear if this is the case for any connection that relies on Class Compliant mode. Although there is this not on the page relating to the mode exclusively:"Mac OS X supports USB Audio 2.0, even with more than 2 channels. Currently, the UCX offers 2-channel and 8-channel modes.

Skim reading it seems it may only work in "8 channel mode" with the analogue inputs, not 16 channels with the analogue plus ADAT though...
Also note this comment about Firewire on the USX. Seems things have changed a little...
