Subject: Re: [LAU] What 16chan sound card
Correct me if I'm wrong, but RME Firewire products have no plans to ever be supported under Linux.
-- Maybe but we're talking USB connections and they're Class Compliant. "Class Compliant Mode The Fireface UCX is the first fully professional audio interface with the option to be used as Class Compliant interface. The Class Compliant mode is a standard that is natively supported by operating systems like Windows, Mac OSX and Linux distributions. No proprietary drivers are required, the device will be directly recognized when the CC mode is activated by the button on the front panel." http://www.rme-audio.de/en_products_fireface_ucx.php After that it starts going on about connection to an iPad and what channels are available. It doesn't seem clear if this is the case for any connection that relies on Class Compliant mode. Although there is this not on the page relating to the mode exclusively:"Mac OS X supports USB Audio 2.0, even with more than 2 channels. Currently, the UCX offers 2-channel and 8-channel modes. Theoretically, Linux should work as well, but this has not been tested and will likely depend on the individual distribution."http://www.rme-audio.de/en_support_techinfo.php?page=content/support/en_support_techinfo_cc_mode Skim reading it seems it may only work in "8 channel mode" with the analogue inputs, not 16 channels with the analogue plus ADAT though... Also note this comment about Firewire on the USX. Seems things have changed a little... "FireWire . The completely redesigned FireWire technology of the HFX-Core provides the UCX with the same exceptional compatibility and performance as RME's USB solution. The UCX does not have any FireWire chip inside - the complete bus technology is programmed into the FPGA and remains under direct control. If ever necessary, it can be updated anytime by a simple firmware update."
