/etc/pulse/default.pa
There are three lines:
.ifexists module-udev-detect.so
load-module module-udev-detect
.else

If you comment them out, jack will always be default and ALSA devices will
not be seen by pulse. This should be ok as you run jack from session
start.

kubuntu comes without and it is one of my first additions... even though
it pulls in gtk libs.

With ubuntustudio it is standard.

Some kind of alsa mixer is also needed for setting preamp levels and
routing. Some interfaces have their own (mudita24 for ice1712 based cards)
or qasmixer seems to be ok. (alsamixer is fine too)
