Seriously, this 24/96 hype is not unlike selling gold-plated directional
power-cables to the audiophile community.
As opposed to those, there are some valid cases for increased bit-depth
or higher sample-rates. But end-user consumer audio, particularly in a
public space, is not one.
See the XIPH article linked by Emanuele: Unless you have suitable
transducers, power-amps and speakers, 96K will sound worse due to
harmonic distortions. Then again, in a room with people moving around
you likely won't hear those either...
