I fully agree,

Linux gained it's reputation through technical merits,
(efficiency, reliability (uptime measured in years :-) ),
speed, low cost of ownership etc.)
Linux isn't popular due to huge marketing etc.

linux-audio should be the same:
attract vendors and users because of technical advantages
like for example reliable 2.1ms audio latency on a P133.

Of course we need some promoting, because many companies
are just not aware of the real capabilities of Linux.
Paul did a very good job at the AES, even if he was not
treated as well as the BeOS guy.
:-)

But if I were a programmer at Steinberg, I would
STRONGLY try to convince my boss to perform a Cubase port
for Linux, since a VST enviroment running virtually latency free
would be the dream of most studio folks.

Paul: what were the comments at Steinberg
(or other firms interested in low-latency) when you
showed them the low-latency diagrams ?
Or were there only marketing people around ?

regards,
Benno.
