I use an Anatek SMP-16. 7 midi in, 8 midi out, and a 16x16 audio
matrix, all controllable by sysex. It also supports a 6-slider
control surface, merging/filtering of two inputs. I've also
had good success in creating an ALSA client that creates 8 client
ports and multiplexes these to the eight 8 midi outs using
a single input port.
These are no longer made but you might find a used one cheap.
I believe they also made an SMP-8 that had the same number of midi
ports but no audio matrix.
