Thanks for your efforts; let me chime in with gdam's requirements.
GDAM binaries require a few libraries:
gtk+ >= 1.2.5
libxml >= 1.7.1
libglade >= 0.11
To compile you'll also need:
gtk+1.2-dev
libxml-dev
libglade-dev
And to build the cvs version:
automake
autoconf
libtool
imagemagick
sgmltools-2
lynx
To render postscript documentation:
jadetex
dvips
Other packages/files will be used if they are detected:
alsa
xmms [for xmms plugin support]
ladspa.h [for ladspa support]
And:
festival
may be installed, and is only optionally used at run time for
rather silly things.
Availability:

libglade
ftp://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/stable/sources/libglade/libglade-0.13.tar.gz
libxml
ftp://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/stable/sources/libxml/libxml-1.8.8.tar.gz
[the -dev packages are in the source tarball]
for cvs compilation:
automake
ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/automake/automake-1.4.tar.gz
autoconf
ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/autoconf/autoconf-2.13.tar.gz
libtool
ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/libtool/libtool-1.3.5.tar.gz
the rest aren't really libraries, and aren't required it you use
the tarball.
