OK, so I did the obvious: I did make menuconfig again, and took out
support for parallel port stuff. The kernel now compiles and
installs without complaint. I installed the modules, copied the
kernel image and System.map to /boot/, edited /etc/lilo.conf, ran
lilo, edited /etc/fstab...
the upshot of all this is that the kernel does not boot. It gets as
far as uncompressing the kernel, then says "loading linux", then
stops. nothing else happens.
Ideas?
