One easy thing to do is to go to www.freshmeat.net, and look at the
number of downloads for all the audio-related tools -- use the appindex
feature to look for the audio subcategories, and screen for the musician
and pro-audio oriented one. This only gets a fraction of all linux-related
downloads for a tool, of course, but it can give some sense of the
current interest.
