Just to clarify, what I have been arguing for is
1) one data type at a time in the plugin network
2) use of floats so that switching data types is easier
I should have been stressing more, I guess, that I am not after limiting
the data type to just float32. Also, I don't think that floats are as
expensive as people are assuming. I can do some pretty interesting things
in real-time using Max/MSP or PD on older hardware (PentiumII 266 -
PowerPC-604 around 200-250 <- don't remember the speed exactly). There is
always non-realtime for older hardware - as long as you can get linux on
the machine you should be able to use these plugins even if it is
'high-end' 64bit floats.
