And this is one reason why you'd want to do as much as possible in a
single machine - every loop to an outside device adds one unit of
latency, with digita interfaces. (There's even more latency added if
there is AD/DA involved.)

As long as connections are in the digital domain of the same machine,
there's no added latency regardless of the chain length, as
everything will still run one buffur in one engine cycle.
