if you really want excellent sound quality, then forget any onboard
sound devices, and get a digigram vxRocket pcmcia card. it can do 24
bit audio, has an XLR breakout cable, and costs a lot (US street is
about $500). no linux drivers at this time, either.
hmm, i guess thats not much of a recommendation :)
