Well, there is always the precompiled Debian package - see e.g.
ftp://ftp.debian.org/pub/dists/potato/main/binary-i386/sound/snd_3.4-4.deb
(ok, it's rather old; the Debian maintainer of snd is on this list - what's
up, Guenter? :-)

I understand you are using Slink and might not want to upgrade to potato
or even woody quickly, but the dependancy list of snd is not very long,
so you might be able to just install the few packages that need updating
manually (or using apt, of course).

On the other hand, the above mentioned package is outdated, only using Motif/
Lesstif as its GUI toolkit. The more recent versions, using Gtk+, can be
found at ftp://ccrma-ftp.stanford.edu/pub/Lisp, but I guess you already
you know that.

I tried to compile the most recent version I found there (4.6) one minute
ago, with this configure line:

$ ./configure --with-alsa --with-gtk --with-gtk-extra --with-ladspa

..and it compiled&linked just fine. What's your error message?

(On the other hand - why does snd use this..uhm..braindead resize mechanism
where I don't see some parts of the user interface until I make the window
larger? That's pretty weird IMHO).

Just my attempt to help,
Frank
