If I were you, I'd take a look at the source code for
Broadcast 2000, it works equally well running on my
laptop with oss (its sound chip isn't supported by
alsa, yet), and alsa on my desktop. As for ardour,
I've got to upgrade to the cvs version of alsa, which
could be risky, as its probably got bugs that aren't
in the stable release.
