Euphonix has an impressive mixing console too, and they have patents
on their lighted knob designs. (www.euphonix.com) The knob have
a center LED which shows the status of the knob, I remember.
However, I don't think the simple design in Samplitude is patented.
There are alternatives too:
(i) highlight/change color of the top of the knob when the knob is active
(ii) highlight the base near the knob (specially in 3D model)
