i did really mean I²S, it's the inter-ic-sound bus (like I²C but faster)
from
phillips. the phillips counterpart of SPI.

I don't think there are firewire interfaces integrated on a DSP. But I know
TI makes interfacing chips that are pretty easy to use. It's even possible
to generate a structure like this:

| (PC) PCI -> FireWire adaptor +>---- Firewire ------->+ Interface -> PCI |
-------------------------------- --------------------

i.e. using a firewire link to extend the PCI bus. I also read somewhere that
it's possible to make the link completely transparent, i.e. the periphial is
inserted into the PC's memory space... if such thing is possible,
programming
would be a lot easier: design the HW the right way & you can forget about
the
firewire.
I have to research that further, and I have exams too (in exactly one week)
so
time is limited.
