I think that would work fine for userland things, as long as you *only*
used the intel compiler, otherwise you will have problems linking c++. icc
may be compatible with gcc3, but I don't know for sure.

I am only interested in plugins right now. It's only really float heavy
code that gets such a big benefit.

I think there is a known bug in the current icc that prevents you from
building a kernel with it.
