and what precisely is it that a "desktop environment gives" that
needs reimplementing in an audio/MIDI/music/sound application?
cut-n-paste? thats toolkit-level. configuration files? i'd prefer a
standalone XML library. integration into the "start" menu?

the idea that i need GNOME around for a guitar tuning program, and
that it benefits from integration with GNOME, is so beyond my capacity
to understand that i'm lost for words (for once, and not for long :)
