I've worked for some big ones and for startups. Fully agree about
the advantages of smaller companies. OTOH, the big ones can provide
you with things that a small company just can't afford. When I was
at Alcatel we routinely use laboratory instruments that would be
absolutely out of reach for a startup. And having those _does_ make
a difference. As do some other things, like e.g. just having to make
a phone call in order to obtain a copy of any research paper you'd
want to read (I'm missing that).
