Sfront works well in real-time under Linux under the control of both
audio in and MIDI in, and you can use the table core opcodes to write
your own sampler semantics easily.

I have a MIDI keyboard to the right of my PC keyboard, and use it about
30 minutes a day for testing sfront changes, so this support is about
as tested as it gets :-).
