Thanks Jorn,

No, the problem doesn't occur with wavs, only with rp8 and that song in
KMidi. The sound is correct, suddenly blares, then becomes grossly distorted.
Sounds like it's "overloading" somehow. I've tried to isolate the source
playing with various controls, and un-installing apps in the hope of
identifying the source. No luck. Strangely enough, I tried rp8 again, after
toying with settings in Aumix, and could hear the audio, but in verrrrry
slowww motion, and of course, still distorted.

I'm using an EPOX Ep-8KTA2 mb with VT82C686A sound chip, with current BIOS
updates (Jun '01).

If you could offer advice on another related newbie sound question: do I need
Arts if I'm only listening to CD's and mp3 files?

Thanks again for your help,
Regards Andre
