The SBLive hardware is just a programmable DSP chip and some analog
(and digital, depending on model) I/O ports. The Creative Labs Windows
driver has embedded in it a program for the DSP chip that turns it into
a wavetable synth, "environmental audio" 3D reverb effects engine, and
a virtual veg-a-matic clone. How to program the @#!%&*!!! chip is still
mostly a secret, though rumors of partial leaks can be found scattered
about. Somebody figured out how to program it to be a synth, but not
quite as good a synth as under Windows (no reverb or chorus or other
MIDI-defined effects implemented, from what I have seen so far).

I'm sorry, I'm just fed up with tales of the unlimited POTENTIAL that
this undocumented piece of crap sound card is supposed to have.
