Perhaps it's the video driver hogging the PCI bus, a known issue
since 1998: See http://www.zefiro.com/vgakills.txt for a reference.

This is not DMA or interrupt conflict but can be configured for some
drivers in XF86Config. Not having a geforce2 I can't be more specific.

I know it's an AGP card but...

The Audio Quality HOWTO says:

Video Cards from Hell

Several years ago the manufacturers of PCI video cards discovered a way
to increase their performance by playing unfairly with the PCI bus. This
can put a lot of awful "zipper" noise into the audio output when you
move windows around the screen.

A Possible Solution: XF86Config

Check your XF86Config file and see if there is a line like this:

    Option "pci_retry"

It would be under the "Device" section. Jorn Baayen suggests to try
disabling it (comment it out). Also try enabling the pci_burst option.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice.
