From what I have read, not only is Ogg a free alternative to MP3 (which
technically requires royalties to be paid to the fraunhofer institute
when encoding MP3s) it is also superior in quality (at the same bit
rate). I haven't tested it thoroughly yet, but it looks like the next
lossy audio compression of choice for streaming as well as sharing of
music.
