Subject: [linux-audio-user] digital capture from minidisc?

I'm trying to capture some audio from minidisc, using the following
equipment (all newly-set-up): Sony JE510 minidisc deck, Midiman
Audiophile 2496 sound card, and a Midiman CO2 coax/optical converter.
The box is an Athlon/KT133 running 2.4.16 with low-latency patches.
Basically, I've been able to get the analog audio I/O to work but
can't figure out how to get the digital inputs to work. I've fooled
around with several different ALSA versions - 0.5.x, 0.9.x, and the
latest and greatest out of CVS (as of yesterday). There is a lot of
stuff there (alsactl, arecord, envy24control) that isn't very well
documented, and postings to the alsa-user list didn't result in any
useful responses... does anybody know a recipe for making this work?
What settings should I use in envy24control, what software should I
use to record? I've been trying `arecord' with a trial-and-error
combination of -D and -f flags... Any advice is appreciated!
TIA,
-Charles
