The firmware download bit is a feature of the USB chipset inside the
midisport (EZUSB). The download happens each time you plug it in or boot,
regardless of OS. Windows and OS9 do it too, they just don't bother
_you about it.
So it should never cause you a problem, the firmware is never permanently
altered. In the Linux case, the various bits are somewhat separate as
yet, so you have to do it by hand/script.
