all linux distributions are binary compatible.

problems arise when the apps require special libraries or make incorrect
assumptions about file locations.
you can just deliver anything you need along with your stuff, and it
will run everywhere, at the cost of harddisk space and memory. but then,
this is what most win apps do, too (unless they're of the kind that
dumps their dll's all over the place and wrecks your system).

this is not a valid reason why no ports of standard software exist.
