note that dselect can be pretty dumb about dependencies and suggestions.
last time i ran dselect, it wanted to remove about 200 packages, and
then reinstall them. it took awhile to figure out that a package had
been superceded by another (don't remember what it was, but it was
something like how lestif replaced motiff because of licensing issues).
i never did like dselect; i wouldn't be surprised if it wanted to
uninstall the kernel if you wanted to remove esd. ;-)
