A gameport <-> MIDI converter cable would be rather cheap, but your
laptop probably doesn't have a gameport, so it's a USB MIDI interface
then.

Edirol UM-1S/E, Midiman MidiSport 1x1/Uno, Yamaha UX16 all work in
Linux. There isn't much of a difference between them, except that the
driver installation for MidiSport devices is slightly more
complicated.

ALSA (0.9.x) has drivers for all of them; for the MidiSport, you'd
need an additional firmware download utility.
The OSS driver in kernels >= 2.4.20 supports them, too (but is
slightly buggy).
