recently, i have gotting into creating (S)VCD's quite a bit. it is rather
easy to burn something that works, though it becomes rather more difficult
once you start tweaking the command line parameters (lots!), and it involves
several applications in a row (pipes, and temp files). i have been using the
dvgrab (i've been encoder miniDV recording), mjpegtools (lav2yuv, yuvdenoise,
yuvscaler, mpeg2enc, etc), mplex, and vcdimager. capabilities of standalone
players do vary quite a bit, so you can decide to create (S)VCD's that follow
the standard to play safe, or try higher bitrates. www.dvdrhelp.com has a
rather extensive list of user-reports on player capabilities.
