I guess it shouldn't... if it does not print any error messages it means
it is working (it is a server and it is waiting for clients to connect).

Try runing some simple Jack-aware application and make some noise...
Hydrogen comes to mind, make sure it is configured to run as a jack
client and that its outputs are actually connected to jack (you can use
qjackctl to run jack, it includes connection patchbays for jack and
midi), load one of the demo songs and off you go...
